PT Pertamina RU VI Balongan oil refinery, Indramayu Regency, West Java, caught fire in the early hours of Monday, Monday (29/03). 

The fire was still ongoing when this news was broadcast, Pertamina is trying to extinguish the fire at the oil refinery. Quoting Pertamina’s website, the Balongan VI Refinery is the sixth of the seven refineries of the PT Pertamina (Persero) Directorate of Processing. 

The main business activity at this refinery is processing crude oil from Duri and Minas into petroleum (BBM), non-fuel and petrochemical products. This refinery began operating in 1994 and is located in Indramayu or about 200 km east of Jakarta.

According to eye witness Rudy Maesal (45), a local resident said that when he saw the burning of the oil refinery there was a fire, then the fire got bigger.

“The fire can be seen from a distance of 1 Km from the TKP, and it clumps up red and dark, we want to have a close look, it cannot be from Pertamina’s security,” he said.

Maryono continued, a distance of 2 km from the TKP said that initially the sound of explosives, jdoor, jdooor, rang up to 5 times.

“We, from the residents, should not get close, we are afraid that the fire will fall, and target residents”, said Maryono from Security (henri / pn / ant).
